First Baptist Church ECM
First Baptist Church Lumberton, 7th and Walnut, has joined the Lumberton Chamber. They have also done a complete renovation of its Early Childhood Ministry facilities. In addition to being bright and inviting, the 70 year old facility had a complete plumbing upgrade, replacing all water supply pipes enabling each classroom to have direct access to toilets and sinks, bringing it up to the most modern childcare codes and recommendations. Teachers were given input to help choose colors and aesthetics so that they and their children are comfortable in the space.
Additionally, the NC Pre-K space was renovated in the second phase of construction. The NC Pre-K rooms are large enough to house twice the number of children which come to them, giving wonderful space for learning centers, and ample room for. movement and activities.
Registration is ongoing, with slots available for 12 two year olds, 5 three year olds, and 10 four year olds in the fall. NC Pre K applications are being accepted at First Baptist in the day care office and at Robeson County Partnership for Children, 210 E. 2nd Street.

Chamber Gala a Success The annual Chairman’s Gala sponsored by the Lumberton Area Chamber of Commerce was held on January 26th at Adelio’s Restaurant. The event room at Adelio’s was transformed into an elegant dining/dancing/networking venue. The beautiful arrangements were sponsored by Flowers By Billy and The Secret Garden. This spectacular event brought support from numerous businesses with corporate tables. Over 150 attended this night of celebration that recognized Chamber members, businesses and individuals who have impacted our community over the last year. The gavel was passed this year from Past-Chairperson, Jennifer Stephenson, owner of Speech Pathology Services of Robeson, Inc. to the new Chairperson, Debbie Branyon. Branch Manager/Vice-President of First Bank in Lumberton. She stated “the event was great with numerous Chamber supporters in attendance and I am looking forward to an exceptional year”! Cindy Kern, Executive Director of the Chamber stated, “The event was an incredible success and one to be remembered”. Highlights of the evening was the recognition of retiring Board Members, newly elected Board members and our many dedicated volunteers. The Gala also allowed time to meet and network with other Chamber members in a relaxed atmosphere. Retiring board members are: John Franklin, John Hendren, Dr. Phillip Stephens, Josh Jackson, Allen Elks, Suzanne Abbott and Bebe Wright-Williams. The newly elected Chamber Board members are Tito Massol-Centerwell Home Health, James Bass-UNCP Givens Performing Arts, Eric West, Attorney, Dwight Gane-Pine Crest Golf Club, Jennifer Hickman-Flo-Tite, Inc./Max-Seal, Mark Peterson-Robeson Pediatrics, P.A., Latricia Freeman-Southeastern Life Center and Libby Davis-Jernigan’s. Committee Chairs for 2024 are: Membership/Ambassadors-Beth Hunt, Special Events-Scotty Thompson, Golf Chairman-Suzanne Abbott, Education-Merle Summers, Travel/Tourism-Angela Sumner, Community Development-Sarah Beth Ward, Legislative-Bo Biggs, Chaplain-Jay Britt, Image Committee-Suzanne Abbott and Agriculture-Miles Mercer. The Chamber Ambassadors were also recognized for their support. Following those introductions, Suzanne Abbott of Abbott Insurance Services, LLC was presented with the Spirit Award for 2023. Suzanne is Finance Chair for the Lumberton Christmas Parade and The Chamber Golf Classic. Her work ethic is exceptional and she is dedicated to making each of these events successful. She is also Chair of the Image committee. The evening of celebration concluded with guests continuing to enjoy delicious food and entertainment by the well-known band of Gary Lowder & Smokin’ Hot. The dance floor stayed busy until the band stopped playing. Because of the support of our Chamber Members and volunteers, I am so proud to say WE ARE A VIBRANT CHAMBER! The best is yet to come.

Chamber Tournament a Huge Success
The Lumberton Area Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic was held Thursday, May 23rd at Pine Crest Golf Club. And what a great day for a Tournament! We would like to thank our the businesses that assisted in making this day so successful. The luncheon was catered by Outback Steakhouse and the beverages were provided by Healy Wholesale and Pepsi Bottling Ventures. The Hole-in- one sponsor was Lumberton Chevrolet, Buick, GMC & Cadillac. The winning team for the tournament was First Bank with a score of 55 which consisted of Bruce Mullis, Adrian Lowery, Brian Haymore and Hannah Luckett. Second Place was Quality Oil & Gas with a score of 57 which consisted of Tim Rice, Jason Rice, Connor Bridgeman and Tommy Davis. Third place went to Lumberton Chevrolet, Buick, GMC & Cadillac winner of a score card playoff with a score of 58 and players were Lee Todd, Joey Todd, Joey Bengston and Bobby Davis. Closest to the pin on #2 Joey Bengston, Closest to the pin #7 Brian Haymore, Closest to the pin on #12 Richard Cook and Most Accurate Drive was Dan Kenney.
The tournament had a host of great volunteers which consisted of Tournament Chair, Suzanne Abbott-Abbott Insurance Services. Other finance members were Debbie Branyon-First Bank, Judy Garner-Lumberton Chamber, Linda Branch-7th Wave Properties, LLC and Cindy Kern-Lumberton Chamber. The Lumberton Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting today for the new expansion of Lumberton Chevrolet Buick GMC Hummer’s Body Shop!
Bill Shotwell, Executive General Manager, stated “We are proud to announce the massive expansion of our body shop. Led by Body Shop Manager Donald Britt and his team-the expansion added 12,400 sq. feet to the existing building . We are now the largest body shop within 200 miles including state-of-the-art equipment for all body parts. Lumberton Chevrolet Buick GMC works on all makes and models. We recently received the “Best of the Best” Customer Satisfaction Award from Allstate for being in the top 2% in the nation, located across from Lumberton High at 500 Linkhaw Road. With this new expansion, Lumberton Chevrolet Buick GMC plans to add more jobs to our county.

The ribbon was cut for Regional Modulars on February 28th, its one-year anniversary. Regional Modulars is part of a national chain of 70+ retail locations and is the only one of its kind in the company. The company has nine locations in the Carolinas, but two of the nine are in Lumberton and can serve all of NC and SC with manufactured and modular homes.
Bender Chavis, General Manager of Regional Modulars, noted that the team is constructing homes as far as 4.5 hours away from Lumberton at the moment, but is excited to see that the local business is increasing. Bender attributes their success to the team’s determination to provide an exceptional customer experience. Tyler Wright, Vice President, stated that modular homes offer many of the benefits of site-built construction including exterior elevations, build quality, customization, finance opportunities, and resale value, but typically come in at a better price per square foot and are often fully constructed and ready to move into more quickly. To expedite the process further, Regional Modulars has been acquiring property locally and is offering land/home packages that are move-in-ready immediately.
The business celebrated with the ribbon cutting as well as serving a delicious brunch to all attendees. Several drawings were held, and many won gifts. The business is located at 307 N. Insurance Services, LLC with the Spirit of the Chamber award recently at the
Chamber Gala. This award goes to the member who best carries out the
chamber's values and mission. The honored individual exemplifies the spirit
of volunteerism and going above and beyond for the success and growth of the
Chamber. Suzanne has been the Chair for the Golf Tournament and Lumberton
Christmas parade committees for several years. She also serves as chair of

The Lumberton Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for Two Hawk License Plate Agency on January 4th. The business is located at 118 West 5th Street in Lumberton. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm. Harvey Godwin, Owner, stated the agency’s goal is to provide great customer service. A Ribbon Cutting was held for the Grand Opening of the Atkinson’s Convenient Store Dairy Queen Grill & Chill. A Ribbon Cutting was held recently for The Secret Garden located at 510 Liberty Hill Road in Lumberton. Cindy Wilcox, owner stated “ I developed my first experience in floral design in Wallace North Carolina, where I opened my first shop. I got married and moved to Lumberton. After raising my children, I found myself wanting to get back to my other love of flowers, and helping people express their sympathy and happiness through flowers. I have been in business for 16 years”. Cindy was excited to share her ribbon cutting with friends and family and look forward to many years of helping the needs of her customers.
