Ribbon cut for Gibson Cancer Center expansion

Ribbon cut for Gibson Cancer Center expansion

UNC Health Southeastern held a ribbon cutting for its newly expanded Gibson Cancer Center on Tuesday, Nov. 30. Cutting the ribbon, from left, were UNC Health Southeastern Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Lori Dove, Lumberton Chamber of Commerce Chair Maureen Metzger, Golden LEAF Foundation President/CEO Scott Hamilton, Golden LEAF Foundation Chair Bo Biggs, UNC Health Southeastern President/CEO Chris Ellington, Gibson Cancer Center Administrative Director Steve Elgin and Gibson Cancer Center Radiation Oncologist Dr. Tom Walden.

The 10,000 square-foot expansion included the addition of a second linear accelerator, or LINAC, which delivers radiation therapy doses through a beam directly to tumors while preserving the surrounding cells, and a fixed positron emission tomography, or PET, imaging scanner used for treatment planning. Funding for the expansion and equipment was provided, in part, through grants from The Golden LEAF Foundation, The Cannon Foundation, Inc., and the NC Rural Building Reuse Program. To learn more about the center and cancer services provided by UNC Health Southeastern, visit srmc.org/care-treatment/cancer/.

The Academy is a North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Arts Licensed Post Secondary Education Facilities.

The  Academy has two state board approved curriculums. Jersey Mikes Subs

LUMBERTON, N.C., July 27, 2021 – Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled subs, held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of their Lumberton location. Franchise owners Daniel & Jamie Terracciano gratefully welcomed members of the Chamber of Commerce as well as community leaders to their location at 3000 N. Elm St. to officially mark the opening of their restaurant. In speaking, Daniel reiterated how honored and proud they felt to be a part of the community and reiterated the values of Jersey Mike’s Subs and their goal to bring a learning environment for employees, a charitable partnership with the community, and, of course, “A Sub Above” experience to its guests.

Guests can place takeout orders in-store or for pickup through the website or through the Jersey Mike’s app. Additionally, delivery is available in most areas through the Jersey Mike’s app or through third-party delivery partners. Curbside pickup is available for orders placed in Jersey Mike’s app.

The health and well-being of Jersey Mike’s guests and operators are its highest priorities, and locations continue to prepare, serve and package Jersey Mike’s subs with all the precautionary measures in place to protect their customers and their teams.

The restaurant’s hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week. You can contact this location directly at 910-816-0260.

Jersey Mike’s believes that making a sub sandwich and making a difference can be one and the same. Since 2010, Jersey Mike’s locations throughout the country have raised more than $65 million for local charities. In 2021, the company’s 11th Annual Jersey Mike’s Month of Giving in March raised over $15 million for more than 200 charities nationwide.

Lumberton Chamber of Commerce Image Committee’s Wall of Fame

David Hammond keeps the Hampton Inn running smoothly, inside and out.

He is the chief engineer for the 105-room hotel. While his primary mission is keeping HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems running at peak efficiency, he was spotted recently by Suzanne Abbott picking up trash outside the building.

For his work, over and beyond the call of duty, Abbott nominated Hammond to be the first recipient of the Lumberton Chamber of Commerce Image Committee’s Wall of Fame.

Hammond explains: “The litter gets so bad, there are times when I jump in to help. It’s a constant battle.”

Keeping the property clean is critical to the hotel’s success, he said. Hammond does not want customers’ first impression to be trash along the curbs and parking lots.

“Image is important,” he said.

With a sanitation rate of 99, the Hampton Inn has a near 100 percent occupancy rate this spring and summer. Hammond is one of the reasons for that success.

“Keeping up this property is hard work, but we have a dedicated staff,” he said.
